Alys Beach About
Karen Roberts, born in Pensacola, Florida, and a native through and through, is one of the most exciting and innovative coastal photographers of our times.  Proudly raised under the wings of a Naval Doctor, her parents instilled in her a passion for creativity. Karen currently lives in Smyrna, Georgia, after having moved there with her family in 2006, and returns to her heart’s home each year, traveling throughout Florida shooting spectacular and inspiring photographs of our coastal areas. Karen began her career early on while receiving her first highly esteemed photography award for an exceptional and unique image of a grand piano fashioned with the use of a pinhole camera, which she constructed herself from a simple cereal box.

Later attending Kennesaw State University, Karen excelled through her passions as a photographer and concluded her studies in the field of Studio Art. Her career officially began with the opening of her very own studio, Karen Roberts Photography, which she has now run for the past 13 years. Some of her many awards include a Best in Show, 1999, from the Dalton Creative Arts Guild, 11 awards from the Kennesaw Fine Arts Society, 12 awards from the South Cobb Arts Alliance - Mable House Arts Festival, including a Juror’s Choice award in 1999, and an award from Photographer’s Forum magazine. She has also been published in several major magazines such as Photographer’s Edge, Jezebel, Atlanta magazine and Inspire Hair Books, as well as, features articles about her in The Marietta Daily Journal and The Vinings Gazette.

Karen is most proud of one award, in particular. On June 18, 2008, Karen Robert’s image of a humming bird in flight was exhibited on the morning show, Good Morning America, as Karen was interviewed for a segment on Hometown Wonders. What a proud moment for her and her family…and this exceptional moment also marked the one year anniversary of the passing of her father.

Karen realizes immense encouragement from her Husband and Mother, as well as her Faith. Her passion for the ocean has always brought her great inspiration. In her yearly travels throughout this region, she has consistently created new and stirring images of our beach lifestyle and ocean treasures, all with exceptional results.
